Guide to Selecting a Metal Stamping Manufacturer

Updated: May 23

In today's competitive global market, it is important to align with suppliers that will work with you closely to understand your goals for your project. Typically, a metal stamping house will provide a quote for the production and tooling based on a part print and your estimated volume alone. If you're lucky, they might ask a few generic questions about your project, such as tolerances or finishes. The better stamping companies will work closely with you to understand your project in its entirety. They will inquire specifics to your projects, such as future goals, known issues, concerns, & competitors to help ensure your product will survive in a competitive environment. Metal stamping houses with this level of care and value added service will naturally guide you throughout the entire process and throughout your product's life.

It is always recommended to locate a supplier who can build and maintain your tooling in-house. This not only prevents unforeseen downtime, but helps control the quality of the end product throughout the life of the tooling and often times resulting in longer life of the tooling. Furthermore, modifications and revisions to the tooling can be preformed quickly and efficiently with manufacturers having this ability in-house.

Don't underestimate a smaller sized metal stamping manufacturer! If you like working with the people that have the knowledge of manufacturing parts directly and can make quick adjustments when needed, work with a smaller sized company. The quality of goods can be better controlled and does not easily deteriorate as compared to larger corporations. Your key contact at a smaller company will more than likely perform different tasks throughout their typical day. They will be in the know and can provide crucial information quickly such as market turbulence when unexpected challenges arise in the supply chain.

With several different types of manufacturing methods and machines available to be used for the production of sheet metal parts, here at Advanced Metal Technology, Inc., we primarily utilize fourslide machines for our production metal stamping process. Fourslides are often considered to be a specialty machine amongst the metal stamping industry. Our machines excel at simple to intricate part shapes and can handle several bends simultaneously making them very versatile and efficient for a multitude of different part shapes and configurations. One large key advantage of multi-slide forming is that the tooling is often times less expensive to build when compared to other stamping press tooling due to the added features that are built into the design of the machine itself. However, one should keep in mind that the "best" designed machines will not function properly without a properly designed and built tool!

Our philosophy of building custom tooling for our customers is that it is mutually advantageous for both parties to ensure the success of your product. Here at Advanced Metal Technology, Inc, we understand that each one of our customers is unique. That is why over the past 30 years, we have continued to evolve to meet the changing demands and our customer's needs. We are committed to providing the best possible service available, especially when you need it the most. When selecting a metal stamping manufacturer for your next project, please do not hesitate to reach out to us to see how we can help.
