Beryllium copper C17500 (Becu) is an excellent option for metal stamping applications that demand a strong spring or component with exceptional fatigue, elastic properties, and high conductivity. Despite copper being commonly viewed as a malleable metal, the inclusion of beryllium in the alloy allows it to reach a hardness of up to 45 Rc (Rockwell). For reference, 301 stainless steel in the fully hardened state rates at around 41 Rc. Additionally, Becu can be coated with gold and/or nickel alloys on its surface, expanding its adaptability across various industries.

At Amtech, we commonly observe our customers using Becu for electronic connectors and custom flat springs. These components are frequently employed in precision-demanding applications with limited space. Through our close collaboration with customers over the years, we have assisted in the development and enhancement of their Becu parts. This collaboration has allowed us to create specialized processes dedicated to producing parts and springs from Becu. The outcome is consistently precise and replicable parts.

Our direct experience includes working with all the various hardness levels of Becu, from TH01 (1/4 Hard HT) to TH04 (Full Hard). Utilizing our lab furnace, we can conduct age hardening internally to uphold our stringent quality standards. By having this capability on-site, we can carefully oversee and minimize any undesired part displacement typically associated with the Becu age hardening process.

In exceptional situations, we have opted for alternative materials like C72900 (Copper Nickel Tin) instead of Becu. This choice is typically made when customers demand the utmost precision achievable with current technology while needing similar mechanical characteristics to Becu. Additionally, we observe reduced displacement during the hardening phase in comparison to Becu. Given that C72900 does not contain Beryllium, it is particularly suitable for specific medical applications and devices.
